It’s like almost eons since the death of the LTTE supremo Prabhakaran and associates and the claims of end of the war. And the number of Human Rights agencies as well as all the individuals who professed despair to all the internally displaced civilians as well as those who were bothered about the genocide being committed by the Sri Lankan forces were appealing to everyone to do something to stop the massacre and the mess….
Now a curious silence persists. Where has everyone gone? In fact the things have gone worse for all those in temporary shelters. They are not yet being allowed to return to their lands. The monsoon has made it worse with spread of disease, lack of food, clothing, health care facilities… and no end to their plight in sight.
The Sri Lankan government is more interested in consolidating the gains and ensuring that no remains of the LTTE are allowed to grow again (can’t blame them). There is also a huge financial outgo that cannot be met by the Lankan government alone. The Indian government is doing a small bit, but not enough.
But this is the time that all the international organizations and individuals can contribute to the betterment of the displaced people, especially the children and the old. Why are they not doing so and why are all the concerned ones not raising voices? Has it become a forgotten cause after the fall of the LTTE? Or was all that concern only to protect the LTTE what say?
