Manmohan Singh – PM, Economist, Gentleman Par Excellence!

He makes us keep our head held high with pride. What a perfect person and gentleman. the unassuming and humble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh...Virtues personified.

Not for him the false values and immoral ways that characterize the layman’s notion of our political leaders today neither the bickering nor the false promises, rather he has risen in life through the dint of hard work and has held many distinguished portfolios in the organized, governmental and political sectors. Having made a mark in all the positions he has held with dignity and allowing his work to speak for himself.

He has been called weak however, in spite of the compulsion of coalition politics especially, the Left parties who limited his freedom in decision making; he has implemented a slew of policies and plans that are the back bone of the rural economy today.

In fact, the waiver of farmer loans, availability of better credit, increase in the Minimum Support Prices and the employment program of 100 days minimum work have changed the rural landscape and has put money in the pockets of the very needy at a time when there is the huge recession all around. In fact the stoppage of various infrastructure projects by the Private sector has turned jobless vast numbers of daily workers who have found a godsend salvation by the availability of work in their villages.

True, there have been cases of corruption and imperfect implementation but that is only a miniscule minority and will be done away with only with better information and systems of monitoring. The Mid Day Meal for students and the Education Guarantee too has seen a tremendous response along with the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. Even the Health Insurance scheme is slowly finding ground and will be in a better shape within the coming five years.

Add to this the massive investments being done in Infrastructure creation such as the Highway networks, local roads, ports etc. these are really the backbone of the economy and is now showing dividends.

What people tend to ignore and forget is that the Honorable Doctor is an administrator first and fore most and was never a politician, hence the fruits of his work stay limited. In fact if it was any other party that had done so much, we would have seen trumpets and chest thumping gestures magnified in thousands of decibels.

You have to praise him for the stands he has taken and emerging stronger at all levels. The Nuclear deal that he got for India in spite of opposition at all levels both within and outside his party and the challenge that he took of even risking his government show how much he cares for his country and his guts even at the cost of his survival – that is the true spirit of this man.

Look at how strongly and firmly he got Pakistan to acknowledge that the perpetrators of the Bombay attacks came from there. This is the first time and in witness of the whole world. It is a huge first step as the problem can only be solved once it is accepted that there is a problem and it was done without any outbursts and political gimmickry of show of strength rather it was achieved with solid and subtle pressure and hard core evidence.

Living room and TV politicians as well as the middle class too absorbed do not see and understand the reality at the rural grass roots level. The bad luck of the Prime Minister is a floundering Party with Centralized Leaders and a vanishing organization at the lowest levels to really work for the party and spread the message of work done around. If that were there, rest assured that the Congress lead by Dr. Manmohan Singh as our Prime Minister would have romped home with a huge majority.

It is a pity that at various places almost 50% of the seats the congress is not a viable candidate due to lack of organization capacity on the ground and hence the voter is forced to choose another alternative driven by communal, caste and other factors, Which is the loss for the country as a whole.

Our Prime Minister Highly respected by the World Leaders and in a sign of the changed Equations held to his belief in India’s rise and right as a emerging Global Power when at the G- 20 Summit he said that India does not need IMF money rather it will be an active contributor to bring about solutions for the global meltdown as well as contribute whatever necessary in association with other member Nations plus he rebuked the Developed world and International organizations for their lop sided policies.

In Fact when President Obama said that he would like to see India and Pakistan talking about solving their internal problems and that dialogue should be the order of the day , we had a very firm Prime Minister quashing any attempts at facilitation by declaring outright that until and unless Pakistan does not stop the terror that comes from its shores as well as destroy all the terrorist infrastructure that is within its control as well as carry out the Bombay massacre case to its logical conclusion, India would not resume the dialogue process. Three Cheers and this is the man called ‘Weak’ by his detractors.

The World Listens when our Prime Minister speaks, Hats off to him! After a fast recovery from Surgery and a solid International outing, he will now be involved in the Elections as one of the Major campaigners for his party...he had a solid start when he took on L.K.Advani and questioned his credentials and contributions when in power and disparaged Advani’s continuous attacks on him personally by calling him a Weak Prime Minister.

He is strong, determined and I thank him for the wonderful five years of his stewardship...and looking forward to his continuation after the elections. It’s very difficult to imagine someone else as the Prime Minister. Dear Sir, Your very presence is noble...humility personified and ability legendary. You are a person on whom I know that we can depend upon to steer us through these troubled times of recession, terrorism, fundamentalism...

Lead us as you have done. Establish an India that will be the Envy of all for her plurality, achievements, Human Rights, Liberty and freedom a Pillar of Democracy, Human Ideals, Peace and Stability – A Nation that we can gift our children that will be rid of the disease called Poverty, Disparity, Fundamentalism, Lack of opportunities...Where we the people will be the True Leaders of the Nation and our aspirations will manifest in our nations marches ahead

Manmohan Singh the great economist?

It was the pressure of left parties that prevented him to pursue the policies of LPG. That’s why Indian economy is safe at a time of great financial melt down.
He is pursuing pro America policy.
In fact he is an agent of IMF and World Bank in India to liberalize the economy for western benefits.

Yaar Puneet,

You are talking from hearsay....as well as from what is a perception from media and vested sources...

If that were the case why did the left parties oppose the independence movement...support the china war...were a suporter of this givernment for 4 and a half years...

and when the nuclear deal became a part of it...they walk away...

ok..they are not a part of that deal...but what about the time when they were a part of every decision??

And why do you forget that they and the BJP were the makers of many non cngress governments...forgetting ideology...

And if that is the case why the opposition to mamta and support for the tata’s...???

and the joke is that the banks are safe as well as the lands...not because of the left...in spite of them...thank indira gandit and nehru...

are u aware that the left was opposed to the IIT’s and the IIM’s as well as the BARC...as the ISRI...and he DDRO...and HAL...

Kindly update and be in tune...

I am not a congress party supporter....neither am i blind...

It was Vajpayee along with a host of left leaders who were enamoured of Indira Gandhi...and that is a Fact..

Thanks for your comment...keep writing

Manmohan Singh is a strong prime minister. It does not mean any physical health. The presence of mind, and to play the political chess in diplomatic way. LET THIS GOVERNMENT BE FOR ANOTHER TERM TO FULFILL THE ALL THE PLANS TO COMPLETE. OTHERWISE,THE ALTERNATE GOVERNMENT, MAY OR MAY NOT COMPLETE COMPLETE THE WORK,AS A PRESTIGE AND PREJUDICE. AT LEAST THE RAILWAY MINISTRY HAS DONE WONDERFUL THING ALONG WITH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.The congress gave us the freedom from the British,Nehru was the great architect of the country,Indira brought many foreign investments and Rajiv boosted Information Technology. Sonia has lived so far upto her consciouness not coveting for priministership for the reason her foreign origin would become a tom tom for opposition parties. Above all for secular democracy Congress is quite fit enough.

The Congress gave the freedom from the Britishers but what kind of freedom is it? Feudalism has not been abolished. The congress which fought against imperialism has become partner of imperialism. Those, which were the landlords or kings, are controlling the overall Indian politics. Congress is not firm against communalism. Manmohan Singh is cool and calm but we can’t overlook his faulty policies.

Sachin, please become a prime minister for one hour in your life time. You will realise what really it is.

Manmohan Singh is silent peace musketeer
who has handled intricate policies with indomitable will to serve the nation.

Which one policy Manmohan Singh has handled with indomitable will? He has not been able to check the price rise. He signed the nuclear deal to become a junior partner of America. The duo of great economists Manmohan Singh and Montek Singh Ahluwalia have no plan to deal with financial crises.

It’s more of a biography of Dr. Manmohan Singh emphasising on his achievements. But even in biography, some amounts of fallbacks are mentioned. A man is a mixture of good and bad. Mr. Iyer we would be happy if you write unbiasedly, though I admire your style of writing.

Hey Ashish,

Thanks for your comment...and what i mean to say is that kindly take away our PM from the political equation..

I have made it amply clear that he is an educated administrator and not a political person at all..

plus i will like to point out that i am not a congress party man...and neither do i accept or believe in glorifying that party...

Yet when i speak of Dr.Manmohan Singh...what i mean to say is that at least with him...you know what he stands for....and he does take extreme positions...not like other leaders or parties..

we are definitely better off with him as a PM than the others...look how he took on a hands on policy for the recession and send his finance minister to take care of the home affairs..

Others could have easily played the blame game...this is the point...he works and alows hiswork to talk...and he is willing to take a stand..

please do not confuse this write up as an endrosement for the congress or its policies...

Thre is good and bad everywhere...i do admire Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi....maybe for their principles and compulsions...

Yet as a PM...not of the congress rather of a disparate group of entities...our PM has done an admirable job...what say?

Thanks...and keep writing..take care and God Bless...

We can't term it as biased post as every one has his own understanding. But Manmohan Singh has failed as an economist and as a diplomat.

Among all the economists so far who have been in Indian political adminstrators,Manmohan Singh could be rated the best.

Manmohan Singh the best economist? He doesn't know about the impact of neo liberal economic policies on Indian economy. If the left wouldn't have been there he would have liberalized the whole economy.

Dear Ketul,

Thanks for your comment...but relearn your lessons and do your home work...

Why does the Left support Industralization in Bengal and oppose in KERALA...

Why the hue and cry for the TATA’s and others when it comes in W.Bengal....and oppose in other parts of the country...??

Why the extra for those in EPF and not for those in PPF....

Get your equations right...progress is not limited by the leaders thoughts...rather it is the want of the common man...

And if they were really right....why go and have a front with the BJD...whom they were opposing up to 2 months back...

Open your eyes...and a good listner and reader become..

Kindly keep writing...even Varun Gandhi has rights in our constitution and country...
