General Musharraf in Exile Till Death Or Will He Fight Back?

The Wheel has turned a full circle with the Police filing a case against Musharraf after the court ruling that the emergency proclamation as illegal. As per the directive of the courts, the Police have filed a Criminal case against the ex-president for detaining the Judges and Their Families and later sacking them for refusing to obey the Emergency Proclamation.

One will recall that it was just as the Supreme Court was to rule on the validity of the Reelection and fearing the worst, the General had issued the Emergency Proclamation. One big part of the entire episode is what does the amnesty given to Benazir, Nawaz and many others by the General allowing them to return from Exile now amount to since the Declaration of the Emergency and all the steps taken later will be illegal as per the Supreme Court.

Where does this leave Zardari and the others? We are now looking at 4 centers of power, the Armed Forces, the Judiciary who can interpret the future as per their thoughts per se, the President, and The Prime Minister. Add to that the Anti-National forces and the dangerous Afghan borders, only the Almighty knows what’s next? And Musharraf, a fighter to the last, what happens to him, will he come back or remain in Permanent Exile? Time will tell.

If anyone should be behind bars right now is the current president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari! I can't believe the biggest criminal is actually sitting on the president's post and talking about prosecuting Musharraf for treason!Musharraf was the best thing that ever happened to the country.

Despite our reservations on many accounts with Musharraf, I would agree that he was the best thing to happen to Pakistan in recent times. In fact even for India, during his presidency, specially after 9/11 he was the best bet!

I don't think Pakistan government would ever be possible to punish Musharraf. He will very easily seek political asylum in any country with which Pakistan didn't have any extradition treaty.
